FACIAL STEAMS: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Since we launched, our range of facial steams have quickly become customer favourites!
Some skincare addicts were avid steamers long before we came along, and for some, our steams are the first they've heard of this new-fangled (but actually not that new-fangled) technology.
So why should you be getting steamy?
WHAT ARE FACIAL STEAMS?
Facial steams are cleansing skincare products, and they're very much a does-what-it-says-on-the-tin kind of thing! A facial steam is just that - steam for your face. Added to a bowl of hot water, the idea is to position your face above the flow of steam with a lightweight towel over your head, creating a 'steam tent'.
Our all-natural facial steams are blended using Dead Sea salt, pink Himalayan Rock salt, essential oils and botanicals. Our unique formulas are developed to help with a range of skincare woes and are a great step to add in to your skincare regime! We recommend steaming no more than twice a week.
WHERE DID FACIAL STEAMING ORIGINATE FROM?
Steaming your face is nothing new. For some, it might bring back childhood memories of your Mum sticking your head above a hot bowl of Vicks when you had the sniffles - but it's actually been used as a beauty treatment for over a hundred years!
The first purpose-built facial steamers date back to the early 1900s, but the use of steam itself as a method of relaxing and cleansing the body can be dated back as far as the Ancient Greeks and Romans.
HOW CAN FACIAL STEAMS HELP MY SKIN?
Facial steams are great for a number of skin complaints. From dull, dry skin to acne and uneven skin tone, these steams are a chemical-free, soothing solution.
The warmth from the steam boosts circulation and helps to open up your pores and loosen any debris, while the infusion of salts gives your skin the hydration it needs.
When it comes to essential oils, we've created combinations that are great for a whole host of reasons.
For example, our Beauty Sleep steam is full of gentle organic rose water and lavender, known for skin-soothing and healing abilities. Our Not Today, Satan steam packs a punch with eucalyptus and rosemary oils to help banish sniffles and leave you feeling energised and refreshed. Rough Night contains zesty lemon and peppermint oils to help ease nausea and brighten skin after you've over-indulged.
Even if you don't have specific skin issues, steaming once or twice a week is a great way to keep your skin looking healthy - and there are even benefits for your mind too. Taking five minutes for a facial steam is a fantastic way to relax and unwind. It's like having a mini spa at home - and who doesn't want that?!
WHY DO I NEED A FACIAL STEAM?
Alright, so let's be real - a facial steam isn't an essential, like water, or food, or wine, or Netflix. But we think a self-care product that gives you glowing skin and helps you get that spa feeling at home is worth having!
They're a great step to add in before you use any serums or moisturisers, as they open pores and prep skin for soaking in as much goodness as possible!
HOW DO I USE FACIAL STEAMS?
Facial steams are easy to use at home. You only need a couple of tablespoons at a time, so one jar goes a long way!
You’ll need the following:
A medium heat-proof bowl
A light towel, big enough to cover your head and shoulders
Some freshly-boiled water

Step 1 - Add two tablespoons of your chosen steam to a bowl and pour over hot water until the bowl is around a third full. Set your bowl on a low table or stool, somewhere sturdy that you can comfortably lean over.
Step 2 - Cover your head and neck with your towel to create a ‘steam tent’ and sit with your face around 30cm above the water. Don't get too close as the steam will be hot!
Step 3 - Take slow, deep breaths and relax! We recommend steaming for 5-10 minutes before cleansing your face and applying any serums or moisturisers.
